Once again, Christmas is round the corner! Lots of Christmas lunches, dinners & parties are coming up. Not only that, gift exchange as well. Food & presents are the biggest sin & "pocket burner" in December.

But, WAIT!

Have you ever thought of this? While we were indulging ourselves in wine, dine & gifts, have we ever thought of the less fortunate fellow mates?

If you have not, please do so now!

We are considerate fortunate to have at least the minimum 4 basic needs. But for the less fortunate ones, to have the basic 3 meals have been a problem to them each day. During festive seasons, it would be the charities themselves who dug into their reserve fund, which could be well-spent on other purposes, to provide the less fortunate with quality food.

COME ON!

LET'S SHARE THE LOVE CARE & CONCERN TO THE LESS FORTUNATE!

It will be a very different and happy Christmas or even 2008 we ever had.

If you are in the F&B line, we appeal for your kind generosity to sponsor your food to the needy.

If you have the spare time and do not know what to do with your time, be a volunteer. To me, at least, it will reduce my karma. Tongue out

If you have neither the above, then get a Polo Tee at S$19. All proceedings will go to Food4life after deducting the cost.

For more information, please refer to their website, Food4life.

Once again, a very BIG THANK YOU to you on their behalf. After all, but extending a helping hand to the needy, will for sure, make our lives happier.

Having involved in volunteering work since age 15, ranging from young children in childcare centers to youths to mental patients, Stephen has since developed a keen compassion for the poor and needy in Singapore. He realized through his observation that food never fails to brighten up people's faces, be it the young and old. Be it festive seasons, outings, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, etc, food is always the main highlight. Hence, Stephen concluded that indeed, food has the ability to bring forth joy and excitement.

However food comes at a cost, it's obviously not free. The larger and better the food, the more expensive it is. Charity homes often has to dig into reserve funds to buy yummy cakes to celebrate birthdays, festive goodies, meals during excursions and home visitations, etc. All these would only increase their food expenditure, which affects their overall cash flow. Seeking for food sponsorship themselves is often a tedious and unproductive process.

It was then that Stephen thought of becoming the link between charity organizations and F&B sponsors. He toyed with the idea of tuition agency's "Match the Tutor & Student" concept. He thought "Why pay from your own pockets when there are willing sponsors and ready volunteers?" He brainstormed the idea with a small group of like-minded friends, and decided to begin this idea to the bottom 5-10% income groups in Singapore, as they're most in need of assistance, yet the most easily ignored and neglected group.

By reaching out to these lower-income groups through sponsored food, our volunteers can take the opportunity to befriend, and even share a joke or two to brighten their otherwise lonely lives. We look forward to celebrate their birthdays with cakes, having dinner together, providing our listening ears, even cleaning or painting their flats if need be, etc.

However, the main challenge Stephen and his group of volunteers face is the ability to gather the addresses and whereabouts of these lowest income groups. Nonetheless, nothing great is ever achieved without hard work, and coupled with the right mindset and determination, nothing is impossible. Hence, armed with only a pure heart and love, Food4Life is borne.
