Drinking Beer is… Good For You?
Beer has always been linked to beer bellies, alcoholism, drunkards and all things negative. But is beer really as bad as it seems? Apparently not, as several studies revealed. Listed are some of the health benefits a couple of beers a day can give you. 1. Stronger bones Silicon, which is an essential mineral for good bone health, has become increasingly rare in modern diet, but can be found in beer. Beer drinkers were found to have denser bones than non-drinkers in a study. 2. Better sleep Insomnia affects 1 in 10 adults, and a beer or two has the general effect of making one feel drowsy. This can lead to a good night’s sleep, which is essential for a good mood, as well as a healthy energy level. 3. Reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases Vitamin B6 and folate are vitamins found in beer that reduces the building up of homocysteine, an amino acid which has been linked to cardiovascular diseases. Beer also thins the blood, which reduces the risk of heart attacks. Beer drinkers also have been found to have higher levels of molecules that reduces the clotting and stickiness of blood. 4. Good cholesterol Beer boosts levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is good cholesterol. This is a protective form of blood fat, and can reduce the insulin levels in non-diabetics. A glass or two of beer has been found to be good for health, but anything more than that can be detrimental to health. Having a couple of glasses of wine could also have the same benefits as a couple of beers, but drinking hard liquor will have the reverse effect. Beer and wine are better options since they both contain beneficial plant substances, while hard liquor has had most of the natural substances distilled out of its contents. Now you won’t have to feel guilty when you pick up the beer glass; just remember, a couple of glasses would be more than enough for the night.
