My weekend updates….

Nothing much.

I was home actually.
For the past 48 hours.

Thank god that my mobile was quiet the whole weekend.
Only my cousin SMSed.

I was either online, watching show or reading my book.

Still nursing the stupid flu and BAD gastrics.
I HATE gastrics.
*sigh*
There is no way for me to diet at all! Oh well, I actually haven't even start dieting.
DAMN the gastrics.

19 days to go!
Yeah!

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack

A convenient and translucent no-mess, leave-on gel mask to be applied just before bedtime. Infuses skin with an intensive supply of moisture during sleep. Moisture is absorbed quickly and conveniently, giving you the pleasure of soft, supple skin in the morning.

During sleep, your skin draws continuous all-night moisture from Bio-HE, which holds several hundred times its own weight in moisture. Polysaccharides strengthen the skin and improve cell renewal, while natural minerals form a protective layer to lock in vital nourishment.

Usage:
Use 2 – 3 times per week after moisturizer. Apply a walnut-sized amount evenly onto face, avoiding the eye area. No need to wash off. Allow gel to absorb into skin for about 15 minutes before going to bed. Wash your face as you normally do the next morning – except you will feel and see a visible difference!

For all skin types, 80ml.

Review: 4/5. I had been using it since last year. Bought it from Korea and it merely cost me less than S$40.  I use it as the last step in my nightly routine and the next morning my skin would feel soft and supple. The feeling is like the face is full of moisture. Not only that, it smells good and puts you in a nice sleep with its lovely scent.By the way, I used daily for 1 week before and I seriously feel the difference. Worth it BUT how much does it cost in Singapore?

Another book worth waiting: The Lost Symbol

The Lost Symbol, formerly known under the working title as The Solomon Key, is an unreleased novel by American writer Dan Brown.

The Lost Symbol will be the third book to involve the character of Harvard University symbologist Robert Langdon; the first two were Angels & Demons (2000) and The Da Vinci Code (2003).

The book's story will take place in Washington, D.C. and focus on Freemasonry. The book has been in development for several years; originally expected in 2006, the projected publication date has been pushed back multiple times. The book will be published on 15 September 2009 with an initial print run of 5 million copies, which will be the largest first printing in publisher Random House's history.

he book has been on pre-order lists for a few months and is being heavily ordered both in the U.S. and Canada. Brown's US publisher Sonny Mehta described it as "a brilliant and compelling thriller" which was "well worth the wait".

Pi Yao/ Pi Xie/ Pi Xiu

The Pi Yao is a mystical creature that is an extremely powerful and auspicious amulet of good fortune, just behind the Dragon. It is said to have a voracious appetite that is infinite. The interesting part is that the Pi Yao does not have an anus, which means things only go in but never come out. It is therefore a favorite must-have for businessmen and merchants wishing loads of money rolling in without spilling out a dime. It is no wonder that the figurines of Pi Yau can often be seen in banks, casinos, foreign exchange markets and finance companies in Oriental countries.

Besides that, the Chinese adore the Pi Yao because of its protective, obedient and loyal nature. It is believed that the Pi Yao will always try its best to fulfill its owner’s wish and safeguard the health and welfare of its owner.

In short, the powerful Pi Yao ushers in wealth, attracts good luck, wards off evil, brings good Feng Shui, provides protection to the home and individuals and brings windfall luck.

Pixiu (also called Tianlu or Bixie) is one of the five auspicious animals of traditional Chinese culture (the other four are the dragon, phoenix, turtle and kylin). The Chinese people call it “fortune beast.” This lion-looking beast has the head of dragon, the body of a horse and the legs of a kylin and is able to fly. The Pixiu is both ferocious and powerful so it works as a security guard of Heaven, resisting demons and ghosts. Just like the dragon and the kylin, the Pixiu brings happiness good luck for people and has an exorcising function. What is different from the kylin is that the Pixiu is a ferocious animal and has strong will in protecting its master. That is the very reason why many Chinese people wear jade Pixius.

The Pixiu has 26 figures and 49 incarnations. As Chinese mythology says, the Pixiu is the Dragon King’s ninth son. Gold, silver, jewels and all other treasures are the Pixiu’s staple food. That gives the Pixiu a noble temperament which helped it win the love of the Jade Emperor and the Dragon King. One day, maybe because it had eaten too much, it relieves its bowels in the Jade Emperor’s palace. The angry Emperor beat it and removed its anus. When news spread among the Chinese people, they regarded the Pixiu as an auspicious animal that can help in making fortunes.

Fengshui experts say that the Pixiu can protect homes, exorcise devils and raise fortune and power for the master. There is a saying that goes: “touch a Pixiu once and you will get a good luck, twice you and will get money and treasure, and the on third time you will get power and position.

Usually there are three materials used in Pixiu sculpting: copper, wood and jade. Copper is a relatively cheap medal and looks like gold after polishing. Wood was used traditionally in sculpturing Pixiu figures on the joist of a big house to keep out bad luck. In recent years, various kinds of jade have been used in Pixiu sculpturing.

No matter from what material the Pixiu is made, it has almost the same power in raising fortunes. But traditionally, according to Fengshui experts, copper Pixius placed in the eight directions have the strongest power. One peculiarity of the Pixiu is that if the master has violated the law, it won’t work for him anymore.

There are some taboos in positioning Pixius indoors. First, don’t put its head towards the front door, because the front door is the precinct of another god. Second, don’t put it towards mirrors, because the light from the mirrors will make the Pixiu feel nervous. Third, don’t put it against your bed, because that is believed to do harm to yourself.

n Chinese mythology, the Dragon King has nine children: Qiuniu, Yazi, Chaofeng, Pulao, Suanni, Bixi, Bi’an, Fuxi and Pixiu. Dragons are believed to have supernatural power in changing weather and ruling the oceans and that is very naturally that its sons are all powerful. In Chinese people’s minds, dragons are a symbol of power and dignity, and that is also one reason why the Chinese call themselves “descendants of the dragon.”

Singapore confirms first case of H1N1

SINGAPORE: Singapore has confirmed its first case of Influenza A (H1N1).

The patient, a 22—year—old Singapore Management University student, is currently being treated at the Communicable Disease Centre at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and is in stable condition.

The Singaporean woman was in New York from May 14—24. She arrived back in Singapore from New York on SQ25 on 26 May at 6.30am. She was seated at Row 55.

She began to develop a cough while onboard. She passed the thermal scanner uneventfully as she did not have fever then.

Later in the morning, she consulted a GP who decided to send her to TTSH via a 993 ambulance, given her travel history.

She was immediately admitted for testing. Laboratory confirmation of her infection was made by midnight of 26 May.

The patient has been vigilant in monitoring her own condition and had sought immediate medical attention once she realized that she was unwell.

Her attending GP, through his quick response in activating the 993 ambulance for the patient, had also helped to minimize the spread of infection from this case.

The Health Ministry says it has initiated contact tracing of her close contacts. They will be quarantined and provided with antiviral prophylaxis.

Passengers who had travelled in the same flight and were seated in rows 52 to 58 are urged to call the hotline at 1800—333 9999 to enable the MOH to check on their health condition.

The MOH adds that all medical practitioners and healthcare institutions should continue to be vigilant to suspect cases.

Singapore will continue with temperature screening for passengers entering Singapore at all checkpoints (land, sea and air).

All passengers passing through or entering Singapore are given Health Alert Notices on board their flights, advising them to monitor their own health if they have been to affected areas and to seek medical attention immediately if they are not well.

Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said: "We know that sooner or later we will have our first case (of H1N1 flu) and now we do. I suppose we have been lucky —— we have now five weeks since the alert to prepare ourselves, as well as Singaporeans for this eventuality. So there should really be no cause for alarm.

“Especially in this case the patient has been most responsible and the GP is highly commendable. (The GP) made the right judgement —— calling 993 so that within six hours of (the patient’s) touchdown in Singapore, she was isolated in the hospital, so the risk of her causing a spread in Singapore should be very low."

Speaking at a labour event on Wednesday, NTUC Chief Mr Lim Swee Say said Singapore is prepared for its first case of the H1N1 virus.

He said: "All of us are psychologically prepared for this but the issue here is not so much on when, now that it has happened. I think what we have to focus on is the speed of spreading. What we have to do is ensure that the entire community plays their part."

Singaporeans are reminded to maintain high standards of personal hygiene. This means covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, and washing your hand frequently with soap and water, especially after contact with respiratory secretions, for example, after sneezing and coughing.

Everyone also needs to be socially responsible. This means staying home and avoiding crowded places (including trains, buses, offices), putting on a surgical mask and seeing a doctor if you have flu symptoms.

MOH advises those who travelled to affected areas to closely monitor their health and seek treatment as soon as possible should they develop symptoms.

Members of the public are also advised to exercise caution over travel to affected areas.

In the event that travel is unavoidable, the public is advised to take precautionary measures such as avoiding crowded areas and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene at all times.

However, if you are unwell with fever and cough but have no travel history to affected areas, you are also advised to see a doctor and stay at home.

MOH is monitoring the situation closely and will update the public should there be any new developments.

For more information on Influenza A (H1N1—2009), you can access MOH’s website at www.moh.gov.sg, call MOH’s hotline at 1800—333 9999, or visit www.flu.gov.sg.

Egoism and Friendship

Friendship is almost the same feeling with love. It is a love without wings and so things are not very different when talking about friendship and egoism. Egoists never realize what the friendship is and so in most cases they never have real friends, but sometimes they are naive enough to believe that they do, but they are wrong in this believe and they soon will realize it.

See, friendship means that there are two people who always support each other and who help each other no matter what happens and they are ready to sacrifice their interests for the sake of their friends. And the same is true for people they consider friends. The friendship is the mutual understanding and care and help and so on and so forth.

Though, in case one always does his best for his friend and the other does nothing and gives nothing such a friendship will ever last for a long. Sooner or later a person will realize that it is not a true friend and he will be hurt with this fact and he will leave. And the egoist will be left all alone with its enormous love to himself.

People always leave the egoist and the day comes that they realize that it is better to stay away from this person and never let him or her to their lives. And this is the day when loneliness comes to egoist's life and stay there forever.

Twenties Girl from Sophie Kinsella.

Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, but suddenly that imagination seems to be in overdrive. Normal professional twenty-something young women don’t get visited by ghosts. Or do they?

When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions. Her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, her start-up company is floundering, and she’s just been dumped by the “perfect” man.

Sadie, however, could care less.

Lara and Sadie make a hilarious sparring duo, and at first it seems as though they have nothing in common. But as the mission to find Sadie’s necklace leads to intrigue and a new romance for Lara, these very different “twenties” girls learn some surprising truths from each other along the way. Written with all the irrepressible charm and humor that have made Sophie Kinsella’s books beloved by millions, Twenties Girl is also a deeply moving testament to the transcendent bonds of friendship and family.

It will be out on 21st July.
